Newly diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes
Getting a diagnosis of diabetes can bring up a mixture of emotions, from uncertainty to feeling overwhelmed. From making changes to your diet, incorporating movement and exercise, to checking your blood glucose levels regularly, it can feel like a lot to manage on your own. So where do you start?
At CRGPA, we provide the DESMOND programme, a Diabetes Education and Self-Management course designed to help patients better understand and confidently manage their diabetes.
Our DESMOND Programme is a free 6 hour self‑management course. Through this course, we provide valuable information about type 2 diabetes, including how the foods you eat affect your body and which choices may be most appropriate for you.
How can Desmond help you
- Take control of your diabetes and learn which foods benefit you
- Achieve and maintain a healthy weight
- Reduce your reliance on medication
- Feel less stressed and more energised everyday
The DESMOND programme also provides the space for patients to manage the changes diabetes bring to their lives, as well as the opportunity to share their experiences with others as the course is with up to 12 people per session.
DESMOND (Diabetes Education and Self‑Management for Ongoing and Newly Diagnosed) offers friendly, practical support to help you understand your diabetes, build confidence and take control of your health from the very start.
This programme is open to people with ongoing and newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes with a HbA1c reading of 48 or above, who are registered with a GP practice in Coventry or Rugby.
The 6 hour sessions can be attended from the following options:
- Face to face, Monday or Saturday, 9:30am to 4:30pm
- Virtual evening sessions, x2, 6pm to 9pm
